Customs duty

Customs duty (or customs fee) is a monetary fee collected by the state after importing particular goods through the customs border. It serves as a so-called protection fee—to protect the state’s domestic market from goods from other countries. Whether and under what circumstances the given goods are subject to customs duty is determined by law or by the given country´s customs tariff.
